Committee on Radio Astronomy Frequencies

The Committee on Radio Astronomy Frequencies (CRAF) is a committee of the European Science Foundation (ESF).


Coordination with active services

In some cases there exist regulatory imperfections which must be resolved before completion of a coordination process. This process aims to enable co-existence of two radio frequency applications within the same radio frequency band and the same geographical area. It is obvious that two applications cannot use the same frequencies on the same spot in the same way while at the same time the applications do not cause harmful interference to each other. The national regulatory authority addresses this issue in the so-called coordination process which will usually result in conditions put on the operations of the applications involved.

Such conditions can be a coordination area or application-specific conditions.

CRAF is actively working on technical requirements as input in a coordination process. Such requirements are usually application specific: different from fixed to mobile systems. To assist the regulatory authorities, the following CRAF positions have been developed:
