Committee on Radio Astronomy Frequencies
The Committee on Radio Astronomy Frequencies (CRAF) is a committee of
the European Science Foundation (ESF).
Status of interference problems in Latvia:
Radio observatory operating in Latvia:
10.6 - 10.7 GHz
This band is used by the Ventspils Radio Observatory:
Radio astronomical quality of the band:
reasonable: often severe degradation by
harmful interference. The observatory had to construct
heavy filtering against this interference. The result is that it cannot use the
whole band allocated to the Radio Astronomy Service with a primary exclusive status
for passive frequency use.
Reason:
Fixed Satellite Service applications in the band 10.714 GHz - 10.79 GHz
causes out-of-band emission in the upper part of the
band allocated to the Radio Astronomy Service (see
GDL-6/ASTRA-1D satellite).
The Ventspils Radio Observatory uses also the frequency band 12.17 - 12.19 GHz.
Furthermore, it is planning to use: 4.9 GHz, 6.67 GHz and 22.24 GHz.
