The Observatory is a department of the Government Office of the Capital City Budapest. The building in the woods near the village Penc was officially inaugurated on 26 November 1976. Since then, the Observatory plays a leading role in VLBI data processing for astronomy and space geodetic research and technology transfer in Hungary.
